Replica Leslie Upper Motor Box 122/142/145/251

The replica Leslie upper motor box cover is designed to replace missing or damaged covers used in Leslie 122, 142, 145, 147, and 251 cabinets. This box serves an important function isolating the horn shelf opening from the bass speaker compartment. Removing this box causes this opening to function as an additional bass port altering the low frequency characteristics of the cabinet.

These Leslie speaker models employ a bass reflex design which uses openings in the bass speaker chamber (ports) to tune the cabinet. You may have noticed the bass speaker baffle has a cutout on the right rear side - this is a tuning port. So is the larger of the two cutouts on the center back cover. Without the upper motor in place the effective total surface area for bass port tuning is increased. Also keep in mind that the porting was designed for a specific speaker, the Jensen P15LL; other speakers will have different parameters and therefore sound different.
